Pixie Cap

I made this little piece as a study using two colors: vandyke brown, neutral tint and a touch of white gouche.  I never realized how much fun and challenging it is when using a limited palette.  I always have this habit of splashing several colors at once in my artwork and I think I should learn from this exercise..must have control and patience in building up tones and colors.

Cortinarius Bulliardii and a Pixie

I call this duo Cortinarius Bulliardii, mushrooms from the Cortinariaceae family.  They are dangerous and poisonous.  But a dear little pixie keeps them company everyday. I'm using ink and watercolour.

Filling in the Moleskine

This is a part of the story that is brewing in my head for some time now... let's see where our hero would end up to. :D

Watercolor Study

I made this watercolor study late last night, couldn't sleep and decided to draw this chirpy little fairy doing a balancing act on top of a flower... the character drawing is not my usual style and I think it's fun to try new ways of illustrating your subject.  Most probably I might do several illustrations similar to this. :D

Faerie Sketches

Some few sketches of my favorite subject...faeries!

Acrylic on Canvas

I have been very busy with office work lately and I still tried finishing this painting which I submitted for a competition, which unfortunately I didn't win or anything but I'm just glad I was able to push myself to finish what I have started.  I used acrylic on a 50cm x 70cm canvas. It's my first time to use this medium and it was really a challenge and  very difficult for me :D.

Filling-in the Moleskine Pages

doodle one

doodle 2

I have a couple of moleskin journals which I have kept for a very long time but this morning I decided to use it for my doodles using my ever favorite nut brown ink.  I was able to make two rough sketches today and I plan to make one sketch a day until I fill in the whole notebook and let's see how many characters I could come up for my Faerie Patch.

Doodle

This is just a doodle that I did a few days ago, I tried using my nut brown ink and watercolor. It's one of those days when I'm extremely inspired with the works of Beatrix Potter.

Bella as an Autumn Faerie

This is a continuation of my faerie portrait illustrations. For this piece, I made Bella a cheerful autumn pixie with her toadstool friends and a dormouse before her. I am initially  laying the basic yellow and brown hues which will set the tone of fall colors all throughout the painting. There are loads of leaves, berries, twigs that  will need my full attention and ofcourse - patience :)  Hopefully I could finish this in a week or two...office work messes up my painting sessions...ugh!

Update!

This is an update of my last blog last year! :) I'm getting there and planning to finish it this coming weekend! Then have to do four more faerie  portraits of kids.  Lots do do!
